Apple and Microsoft pay the least for entry-level engineers on average, however, when it comes to senior levels, the compensation is more comparable in Big Tech.

Blind data shows that promotions at Amazon may take longer and the company also has wider pay bands for engineers, which means overall compensation can vary greatly. Apple’s overall remuneration may be less competitive than its peers, but their employment levels and pay bands are consistent and fair, the report said.

Google is claimed to be one of the most balanced or consistent pay bands among Big Tech companies. This means that it is rare for someone at a lower job level to get a higher salary than someone at a higher level.

Engineers in Meta grow the fastest and earn the highest salary. Microsoft has many job levels for software engineers, which can give the company more flexibility to promote more. However, their overall remuneration to the staff software engineer is lower than that of their peers across the board.
