Meta has launched an updated WhatsApp desktop app for Mac users that includes most updates to the latest WhatsApp Windows app, which it relaunched in August last year.
The main addition to WhatsApp for the Mac app is the expansion of group video calling, with users now able to make calls with a maximum of 8 people and 32 participants for audio chat.
According to WhatsApp:
“Now you can join the group call once it starts, view your call history and choose to receive incoming call notifications even when the app is closed. The app has been redesigned to be more familiar to Mac users, which helps you work more quickly when using WhatsApp on the big screen.
WhatsApp is expanding its video options, as it looks compatible with changing usage behaviors, and provides a more impressive, engaging integrated experience. WhatsApp has recently added screen sharing for video calls and video messages.
The new Mac app includes improved drag-and-drop file sharing capabilities, the latest chat history displays, and more, with each element protected from WhatsApp’s standard end-to-end encryption.
As more questions are raised about data security, whatsApp continues to be used more, with Meta reporting in October last year that North America is now whatsApp’s fastest growing region.
For a long time, WhatsApp was seen more as an app for developing markets, and it is the leading messaging platform in many regions. But the increase in U.S. usage represents a new opportunity for the app, with more businesses also considering their integrated options.
That’s where these new desktop apps can be particularly beneficial. And as more and more businesses now use click-to-message ads as well as paid messaging on WhatsApp (which has increased 40% compared to quarter versa in the first quarter of 1), it may also be able to explore your WhatsApp opportunities.
You can download the new WhatsApp for the Mac app from WhatsApp.com, while it’s also coming to the App Store soon.
